I hope you’re finding some sweet little moments to just breathe and BE today.
If you read the “acknowledgements” section of Truthaches, you’ll recall that at age 4, Carolyn’s daughter cornered me in Costa Rica, demanding to know if Santa was real.
I told her she needed to ask her parents.
But it didn’t end there.
A few minutes later she was knocking on my bedroom door saying she needed something from my room. She closed the door behind her and said “you just need to tell me about Santa now.” She was fearless and determined—and utterly adorable.
In this video, author Catherine Bell of The Awakened Company asks about keeping secrets (including Santa!) from children and shares a tender example from her own parenting journey.
I love Catherine’s courage to be vulnerable, and I love this topic. But it’s complicated.
If you’re a parent, maybe you’ve had awkward feelings about the whole Santa situation? Or did you (or someone you know) struggle with learning Santa wasn’t real? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
Don’t even get me started on the tooth fairy, a creature that gives money for children’s body parts while they’re sleeping! You gotta laugh at our world sometimes.
Glad we’re in this together,
Tamika
PS – Come join Catherine and I on February 9th for a mini-course on all things truthaches! Bring your questions and let’s have some fun with this (scholarships available for anyone in need).
